She Drives Me Crazy is the 9th episode of season 3 and the 52nd episode overall that aired on August 5, 2005. In this episode, Suga Mama gets pulled over by the police for having an expired license and is forced to get a new one at the DMV. Penny and her friends try to stop her, but end up getting in an accident.

Synopsis[]

Suga Mama runs into trouble with the law when she commits multiple traffic violations while out with Papi. In the ensuing melée, Penny, who had been trying to get her to stop, suffers a hairline fracture after her bike skidded across oil and Dijonay landed hard on her leg. To make matters worse, Sunset reveals to everyone that Suga Mama has been driving for decades with a license that expired in 1938.

Trudy ultimately takes care of Penny and helps Suga Mama get around town, but she is quickly driven to the brink. Oscar then takes Suga Mama to the DMV to renew her license.

While Suga Mama passes her vision and written test with flying colors, she wrecks the DMV during the driving test. Depressed, Suga Mama confines herself to her home, refusing to talk to anyone, especially after she has a bad dream where she and Puff are kicked out of Heaven for not having a license.

The family decides to check on her, and when Suga Mama mistakes Penny for Puff, they bring in Dr. Payne, who concludes that Suga Mama is legally blind and had Puff do her vision exam instead. Dr. Payne gives Suga Mama new glasses, which helps her vision. She returns to the DMV, and this time, succeeds in getting her driver's license.

Later, she drives Penny to the football game, but loses her glasses and starts driving out of control again.

Trivia[]

  • This episode was intended to air on January 9, 2004, which advertised after ending the episode "Smack Mania 6: Mongo Vs. Mama's Boy". Unfortunately, due to ending production of The Proud Family, the air date was delayed until August 2005, the same month the full-length movie based on the series aired.
  • The music heard during the montage of Trudy helping Penny and Suga Mama is similar to Miss Gulch/the Wicked Witch's theme from the 1939 film version of The Wizard of Oz.
  • The ending tag in which Suga Mama watches Bobby's music video was likely made due to the episode being too short.

Goofs[]

  • When Trudy gives Penny the TV remote, her arm disappears for a split second.
